The Sagol Lab for Evolution Research investigates the deep principles of how evolution works, focusing on the mechanisms of mutation. It was once thought that mutations were accidents occurring at random locations in the genome. However, recent evidence suggests that yet largely unknown mutational machinery is massively involved in affecting the probability of occurrence and the type of mutations that occur in a heritable mode. This has profound implications for our understanding of evolution and medicine. We study a wide range of questions that follow from these recent developments, offering opportunities for highly motivated researchers and students with a record of past excellence. A researcher with wet-lab experience (in particular, molecular biology/molecular genetics) is needed for a new, high-impact empirical research project on the origin of mutations. Experience with yeast is preferable but not required.

The Gonda Multidisciplinary Brain Research Center at Bar-Ilan University is looking for an excellent early-stage scientists in the field of neuroscience.
Join a vibrant and innovative research team investigating ageism as a multidimensional concept! We are seeking a highly motivated Postdoctoral Research Fellow to contribute to an ISF-DFG-funded project examining distinctions between prescriptive and descriptive age stereotypes in relation to ageism. This project is a collaboration between Prof. Liat Ayalon from Bar Ilan University and Prof. Klaus Rothermund from Jana University.
About the Project:
With the current research project, we will test a comprehensive conceptual model specifying the relations between age stereotypes and age discrimination. We will test our model with a multimethod approach: We will develop and validate domain-specific measures of the relevant constructs (descriptive and prescriptive age stereotypes, self- and other-directed age discrimination). Cross-sectional and longitudinal survey studies will be conducted to investigate descriptive and prescriptive age stereotypes as well as self- and other-directed age discrimination in large samples, covering a broad age range, and spanning two different countries (Israel and Germany). These studies will provide an informative overview of the prevalence of, and relations between age stereotypes and age discrimination. In addition, the planned studies allow us to investigate domain-specificity and gender-specificity of the relations, providing a differentiated and comprehensive account of age stereotypes, age discrimination, and how they relate to each other. The studies will also allow us to investigate country differences, and to explore their underlying sources. Comparisons between Israel and Germany are particularly informative to detecting possible determinants and moderators of the prevalence of age stereotypes and age discrimination, and of their potential relationship, since these two countries differ with regard to demographic characteristics and also with regard to the salience of existential threat. We will follow up on the survey studies with experimental studies to determine the causal direction of effects. In a first experiment, we will manipulate the endorsement of descriptive and prescriptive stereotypes and assess the effects of these manipulations on age discrimination. In a second experiment, we will additionally manipulate existential threat to investigate the causal effects of threat on age stereotypes, age discrimination, and their relation, and we will compare the effects of personal manipulations of threat in different contexts (Germany vs. Israel).

Our research group studies the complex challenges of enhancing human-nature relations in the Anthropocene to assure quality and accessibility of urban nature to city residents.

A research associate/ postdoc is needed for an ERC-funded project
Our bodies rely on protein-driven shaping and remodelling of our cells’ membranes to function. Uncovering the mechanisms of remodelling of the cell membrane is, therefore, essential for understanding biological processes such as fertilization, but also to allow for precise intervention in them when required. The interplay between protein position, membrane tension, and local curvature is believed to dictate these processes. However, experimental verifications of this hypothesis in specific biological systems are scarce. Of specific interest is the role of Tetraspanin proteins, which are sensitive to membrane curvature, in various membrane shaping events. In particular, these proteins are critical for formation of the newly discovered cellular organelles called migrasomes, which are a new cell-cell communication paradigm. This proposed project addresses TSPN functions by a bottom-up approach, reconstituting the processes of interest from the simplest building blocks and characterizing the distinguished roles of membrane tension and curvature. To this end we will use several new assays based on combined optical tweezers, micropipette aspiration and confocal fluorescence microscopy as well as AFM that will operate on crafted membrane model systems. Our unique experimental approach will allow us to recreate the conditions leading to migrasome formation, egg-sperm fusion, and viral membrane fusion. Revealing the mechanisms underlying these processes will have a direct impact on the development of novel infertility treatments, non-hormonal contraceptives, and novel anti-viral drugs.
A PhD in Biology/Physics/Chemistry or a related field is required.

The Magnetic Resonance Lab headed by Prof. Lucio Frydman at the Weizmann Institute of Science, is looking for a Staff Scientist in the field of magnetic resonance at large, with an emphasis in conducting pioneering research in the development of new hyperpolarized NMR and MRI methods. This is a tenure-track position oriented entirely towards academic activities, with no teaching or service mandates; suitable candidates will be considered only if they have a proven ability to excel at scientific research.
The Frydman lab focuses on developing new technologies in solution and solid state NMR, in in vivo NMR and in NMR imaging, enabling new applications in materials, biophysics, biology and medicine. The candidate’s projects will eventually deal with all these topics, but will begin with research at the interface of biomolecular and in vivo NMR and MRI–including the development of new forms of enhancing MR’s sensitivity that exploit either directly the hyperpolarization imparted on the spins, or pools of hyperpolarized / abundant spin reservoirs that can enhance the sensitivity of dilute analytes of interest via chemical exchanges. The group specializes in the synthesis of PGM-based nanocatalysts and catalytic layers for use in cathodes of proton exchange membrane fuel cells:
• Synthesis of catalysts from bi- and trimetallic Pt alloys with different shapes and structures, and their material characterization.
• Synthesis and characterization of functional carbons, with different pore sizes and doping and its use as a support for the Pt-based catalysts.

The Livnat lab investigates the deep principles of how evolution works, focusing on the mechanisms of mutation. It was once thought that mutations were accidents occurring at random locations in the genome. However, recent evidence suggests that yet largely unknown mutational machinery is massively involved in affecting the probability of occurrence and the type of mutations that occur in a heritable mode. This has profound implications for our understanding of evolution and medicine. We study a wide range of questions that follow from these recent developments, offering opportunities for highly motivated researchers and students with a record of past excellence. The department of fruit tree sciences, in the plant science institute of the Volcani institute is looking for research group leaders at the subjects of fruit tree physiology, genetics and genomics of fruit trees.
Tropospheric ozone is a major air pollutant that negatively affects human health and natural and agricultural vegetation, significantly affects climate, and plays a key role in removing other air pollutants from the troposphere. Dry deposition, particularly to vegetation, accounts for about 20–25% of ozone removal in the biosphere. This process is currently not well characterized, limiting accurate simulation of key processes by air quality and climate models.
This research project is funded by the Israel Science Foundation with the objective of developing an improved parametrization of ozone dry deposition rate for air quality and climate models. Capturing and injecting Carbon Dioxide into deep geological formations, e.g., depleted oil and gas reservoirs or saline aquifers, is a promising technique for mitigating Carbon Dioxide emissions. To ensure safe storage, the hydraulic properties of the reservoir need to be characterized. This involves the estimations of multi-phase flow properties from corefooding experiments and upscaling these properties to field-scale models. However, Recent investigations show that sub-core heterogeneity significantly impacts large-scale flow.
The project aims to develop new methods of characterizing sub-core properties and upscaling using semi-analytical solutions and machine learning techniques. The research will allow the successful candidate to develop a set of skills in multi-phase flow at porous media, applying and developing machine learning techniques, developing analytical solutions and commanding multi-phase flow numerical simulations.

My new lab – Psychiatry in Action – is looking for graduate students and postdoctoral researchers to lead a 5-year-funded project looking at how people perceive effort.
Although significant progress has been made in understanding motivation, a critical yet understudied aspect of human motivation is how we perceive and respond to effort: when we feel motivated to do something or ‘up for it’, we can perform the hardest of tasks, but when not, even the most mundane task feels extremely difficult. Changes in how people perceive effort are common across individuals as a result of neuropsychiatric conditions and within individuals as a function of sleep, mood and so forth. What underlies these changes remain largely unclear.
To better understand the determinants of effort perception, the project will use various neurophysiological measures in humans, including EEG, pupillometry and metabolic measures in tasks requiring physical and/or cognitive effort.
The ideal candidate will have:
* Background in neuroscience or a related field
* Programming experience in python and/or Matlab
* Experience in using computational models of behavioural data

When soldiers kill enemy combatants and civilians in war or police officers kill or injure demonstrators, many suffer the acute psychological distress, guilt, and shame of moral injury. Often termed a “hidden wound” of war and law enforcement, moral injury can impair veterans’ mental well-being and hinder their reintegration into civilian life. Our research team investigates the psychological, cognitive, and political dimensions of moral injury through a series of innovative lab and survey-based experiments. Our goal is to gain a deeper understanding of the phenomenology of moral injury in military and domestic security situations, examine the effects of moral injury on democratic citizenship and political participation in democratic societies, and determine whether and how social activism might mitigate the worst effect of moral injury and so facilitate the reintegration of wounded veterans into civil society. Dr. David Omer, principal investigator at the Safra Center for Brain Sciences, is seeking talented, dedicated and enthusiastic PhD candidates interested in working with marmosets to join his lab. The lab focus is on studying the neural circuits basis of perception of Space, Time and Memory, for Self and Others, in the primate brain.
The selective applicants would develop behavioral paradigms to assess cognitive processes in marmosets as model for the human brain and behavior. They would establish in vivo, wireless electrophysiological recordings from marmosets during natural behavior, with a focus on understanding representations of Space, Time and Memory for Self and Others in the hippocampus and prefrontal cortex.
